Eyelid Surgery Santa Barbara
Dr. Sheffield is a prominent Santa Barbara plastic surgeon who specializes in eyelid surgery and non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Some of our patients have brought forth interesting and detailed questions about upper eyelid surgery, otherwise known as upper blepharoplasty, and eye bags treatment.
I am a 28 year old male and as the picture shows, I have fairly prominent eye bags that I have been trying to find a way to correct. I went to a Dr. and she said that there not caused by fat hernation, as I had previously thought, as that seems to be the most common cause of eye bags, but some sort of fluid retention. What solutions are available for eye bags that are due to fluid retention and not fat? What might be causing this problem in the first place? Thanks for your help!
:This is a great question and thank you for attaching for your photo for our reference! Based on the photo that you have attached, your case is most possibly caused by either malar bags or by fat tissue. Depending on the cause of the eye bags, certain treatments can be done to improve them. If the eye bags are caused by fat tissue, surgery may be required. However, if it is caused by malar bags, eyelid surgery may not be helpful. You can, however, undergo filler treatments using hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane. These fillers can mask the bags a bit so that the bags are not easily observable. On top of that, you can also make sure that your diet is low in salt to reduce the malar bags.
To identify the cause of the bags, I would suggest for you to look for a board certified plastic surgeon for a second opinion. Your doctor should be able to assess the situation and pinpoint the best solution based on their evaluation. All the best!
