FACIAL EXTRACTIONS SANTA BARBARA

Facial Extractions Santa Barbara – Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

Facial extractions refer to the process of using mechanical or manual means of clearing clogged or compacted pores. These extractions are typically performed as part of a facial. Many patients will require a couple of extractions during their facials. Further extractions may be necessary if this is your first facial.

Blackheads (also known as comedones) are the most common reason for extraction. Blackheads are not “dirt in the pores”, they are pores that are clogged with dead skin cells and excess sebum. The area that remains visible on the skin’s surface is oxidized oil that darkened once it was exposed to the air. The effect is similar to slicing an apple and allowing it to sit out on the counter for a while.

Pimples and pustules can also be extracted during the procedure, depending on their depth and size. A lancet is typically used to gently lift and remove the pustule’s top layer so that the contents are easier to extract. Some pores may not be ready for extracted on the initial attempt and may require additional treatments before they are able to be cleared.

What to expect during the treatment

The esthetician cleanses the skin to start the procedure. An enzyme or desencrustation fluid is applied to the skin with steam for a few minutes. This allows for the skin to become softer and creates an easier extraction. The esthetician may also use a skin scrubber, as this ultrasonic device can loosen the impacted pores.

A magnifying lamp with a bright light is used to perform the procedure. This allows your esthetician to see the pores that are in need of deeper cleansing. Protective eyewear is provided to the patient. This serves as a means of shielding your eyes from the bright light. The esthetician will be wearing gloves during the procedure and gentle pressure is applied around the pore to extract its contents. The fingers are wrapped in gauze or cotton if they are used and there is a special metal implement designed for this specific purpose.

What happens after the extractions

Once the extraction has been completed, an antibacterial/antiseptic product is applied to the area. This brings the skin back to its normal acid pH level. Post-facial breakouts are also prevented. The extraction area may require a high-frequency current in order to calm the skin and kill off bacteria. A soothing mask is applied in after a number of our extractions and this helps to heal blemishes, calm the skin and reduce redness.

Why you should leave the extractions to our estheticians

Clients who are experiencing acne are often tempted to pick or pop. In order to achieve healthier, clearer skin, it is important to avoid these urges. Keep your hands away from your face and allow a professional esthetician to perform the extraction on your behalf. Attempting your own extractions at home can lead to the spread of bacteria and cause pore damage. As a result, the skin becomes worse instead of better. This practice can cause the pore wall inside of the skin to break. This pushes bacteria out into surrounding tissues and spreads the breakout. Your esthetician will know how to clear your clogged pores without spreading inflammation and infection.

Only sufficiently trained licensed and trained professionals should be providing your skin treatments.
Take the time to ask your prospective skin care therapist about the extent of their training and work experience, as it directly relates to the treatments you are contemplating. ASCP members have received the necessary validation from their state’s licensing committee. They have also completed their major training requirements and have agreed to the highest code of ethics. This ensures that a patient will be treated responsibly and with the utmost respect. ASCP members receive complete materials and additional training which allows them to be at the forefront with current trends and this allows them to provide cutting-edge treatments to all patients.
