1) Ask to speak with the doctor or medical director. A compliant med spa will schedule a consult before treatment to ensure candidacy is correct and there is a proper treatment plan.
2) Make sure that the person giving treatment is legally permitted to do so. Generally speaking, anything using needles for injections or cutting with a scalpel should be performed by a practitioner who is at least an RN. In our office, a plastic surgeon performs injections such as Botox and dermal fillers, and a dermatologist performs procedures like laser hair removal.
3) Make sure to do all of your research. When it comes to medical spas, experience is critical. From the med spa itself all the way to the physicians on staff. Dig deeper to see if the med spa has any issues with the BBB. Check out Yelp, Real Self as well as Google Reviews.
