PATIENT GUIDES

We offer a broad range of aesthetic, cosmetic and non-surgical procedures emphasizing the minimally invasive and non surgical approach to eyelid surgery and facial rejuvenation. One of the aspects of aging that detracts from facial aesthetics as we age is a tired look which is often caused by excessive skin of the upper eyelid and under eye hollows. There is also puffiness of the eyelid which is caused by bulging of the small fat pads of the lower eyelid. Additionally, crows feet lines contribute to the aging look. Using a combination of non-surgical approaches to the lower eyelid and minimally invasive to the upper eyelid moves the patient to a more pleasing aesthetic result and a short recovery time. As part of our commitment to patient education and in order to help our patients become knowledgeable about procedures of interest we provide patient guides for Botox, dermal fillers and eyelid surgery.

Botox

Perhaps the main advantage of Botox in the field of aesthetics is that it is quite effective in reducing the visible signs of aging as a result of sun damage in the eyes, face and neck, without the risks of having to go under the knife and the use of general anesthesia.  Injectables such as Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are used to address lines and wrinkles as well as to improve brow position.  These products are just one aspect used in the process of the non-surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation of the patient’s skin.

Dermal Fillers

Injectables known as dermal fillers, facial fillers or cosmetic fillers are used to fill in visible wrinkles, creases and folds, especially the deep ones that can’t be treated with Botox. Dermal fillers are also ideal for individuals who want to add volume to hollow temples or cheeks.  Fillers such as Belotero and Restylane are used in the tear trough region for sunken and under eye hollows to improve volume loss as part of the eye rejuvenation treatment.  Another use of dermal fillers is for lip enhancement.  Juvederm and Restylane are fillers that are recommended for lip enhancement, as well as chin and cheek enhancement.  There are two types of dermal fillers, which are collagen boosters and hyaluronic acid gel fillers. The latter can smooth over wrinkles or add volume in an instant. Collagen boosters provide results at a much slower pace by stimulating the skin in order to generate more collagen.  Schedule a consultation with a qualified Santa Barbara plastic surgeon for a customized treatment plan.

Non-Surgical Face Lift

The art of facial rejuvenation performed by a board certified plastic surgeon is trending towards the minimally invasive and non-surgical approach because of the benefits of decreased risk, a more natural look, lower cost and quick recovery.  Patients are more interested with achieving the benefits of plastic with having to undergo surgery.  The non-surgical procedure involves many modalities to restore the youth and beauty impacted by the aging process.  The non-surgical treatments include Botox injections for fine lines and wrinkles.  Dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero and Radiesse are used for deeper lines, wrinkles, folds and creases as well as for volume loss.  These cosmetic fillers can also be used to reshape and enhance areas such as the nose, cheeks and chin.  The various Non-surgical procedures include, non-surgical eyelid lift, liquid facelift, lip enhancement, cheek enhancement and non-surgical rhinoplasty.  In addition to Botox and fillers, other non-surgical face lift treatments include Silhoutte thread lift, chemical peels, microneedling, IPL and other skin resurfacing and skin tightening procedures.  Contact your Santa Barbara plastic surgeon to see if you are an ideal candidate for non-surgical face lift.

Eyelid Surgery

Minimally invasive and non-surgical procedures are a great alternative to traditional plastic surgery. By utilizing the latest techniques, scarring becomes a thing of the past.   We offer a wide range of services to achieve rejuvenation of the eye area including upper eyelid surgery, non-surgical eyelid lift and Botox injections for crow’s feet or to lift the eyebrow.  The goal of minimally invasive and non-surgical procedures is to improve the patient’s natural beauty without making it look unnatural.  This benefit gives patients the ability to significantly improve their natural charm and beauty without creating an exaggerated appearance that can possibly occur when surgery is performed before it is really needed.  Our minimally invasive eyelid surgery is perfect for patients who are looking for a youthful and more refreshed appearance but do not want the risks, cost and hassles associated with general anesthesia surgery.

Dr. Sheffield is the best plastic surgeon that I’ve seen. He was very sweet and understanding because I was very hesitant and scared to try Botox for the first time. He was very patient and gentle. It didn’t hurt at all and I was very pleased with the results. He understood that I didn’t want to go to drastic and he gave me a natural look which I love. =)
I definitely recommend Dr. Sheffield to everyone!

Of all the physicians I have seen in the past (a lot!), Dr. Sheffield. has been the most caring and thoughtful doctor I have met with … In my experience, it is rare to interact with a physician as compassionate, knowledgeable, and competent as Dr. Sheffield.
