What Does Reducing the Lips Mean?
Simply put, this is a surgical procedure that is geared towards being able to improve the appearance of the lower and upper lip, making sure that they will perfectly complement each other. Reduction of the lips is also done to make it proportional to the size of the face.
How is a Reduction of the Lips Performed?
Because reduction of the lips is a surgical procedure, the first steps will be initial assessment, making sure that you are an ideal candidate for the procedure. It is important to be in a good state of health, and more importantly, to have realistic expectations.
First, a local anesthetic will be applied on the lips. Next, an incision will be made across your inner lip. From this, the excess fat will be removed, depending on how you want the outcomes to be. Usually, dissolvable sutures are used with this technique. This may be followed by the same procedure on the other lip.
How long is Procedure?
There are different factors that will affect the length of the surgery, such as the amount of the excess tissue that will be removed or whether it will be done only on a single or both lips. Generally speaking, however, it is going to last for about one hour.
Are There Side Effects?
Like in the case of other surgical procedures, there are risks that are associated with reduction of the lips. There are instances wherein you might feel numbness and lumps can also be present. In some instances, there are people who complained about asymmetry. Scars can also be apparent but it will be located inside of the lip.
How long is the Recovery?
Based on the experiences of many patients, full recovery can be achieved within about two weeks. During this period, discomfort and swelling can be experienced, but it will be gone within a few days.
When can I See the Results?
Even if recovery will take approximately two weeks, it should be noted that the full results will be evident only about three to four months after lip reduction has been performed.
