Because reduction of the lips is a surgical procedure, the first steps will be initial assessment, making sure that you are an ideal candidate for the procedure. It is important to be in a good state of health, and more importantly, to have realistic expectations.
First, a local anesthetic will be applied on the lips. Next, an incision will be made across your inner lip. From this, the excess fat will be removed, depending on how you want the outcomes to be. Usually, dissolvable sutures are used with this technique. This may be followed by the same procedure on the other lip.
There are different factors that will affect the length of the surgery, such as the amount of the excess tissue that will be removed or whether it will be done only on a single or both lips. Generally speaking, however, it is going to last for about one hour.
