How does laser hair removal work?

All hair removal treatments are the same, despite the use of different light-based technologies. Hair follicles in the treatment area are illuminated with bright flashes of light. Hair follicle melanin is targeted by the light as it passes through the skin. Hair is essentially destroyed because the pigment absorbs the light’s energy. Multiple hairs can be treated at the same time depending on the handpiece size.

The hair follicles need to be targeted multiple times during their growth phase. For the majority of patients, it takes between four and six treatments to achieve long-term results. Touch-ups may be necessary in the future. After the first treatment, patients should notice a difference in their hair and skin texture. When all follicles are destroyed, hair growth will be permanently halted, making the results even more impressive.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Does laser hair removal work in terms of being permanent? The answer is, categorically, a no. Hair follicles are heated during laser hair removal, which inhibits further hair growth. Even though laser hair removal is marketed as a “permanent” solution, it only works to reduce the density of unwanted hair in a specific area. There are still a few hairs that aren’t gone after using it.

How long does laser hair removal actually last?

After completing all of your sessions, your laser hair removal results will last for at least two years; however, periodic maintenance sessions may be necessary to keep the area hair-free indefinitely.

Is laser hair removal bad for you?

As with any medical procedure, there is a chance that laser hair removal will cause some degree of discomfort or scarring. It’s also possible to experience graying or excessive hair growth around the treatment area in people with darker skin.

How painful is laser hair removal?

When compared to other hair removal methods like waxing and electrolysis, laser hair removal is by far the least painful. It’s like being snapped by a rubber band, according to many patients. Laser hair removal can be painful, but how painful it is depends on the area being treated and how sensitive you are to pain.
