: How Much Bruising Should I Expect from Under Eye Filler Injections?

How bad is the bruising under the eye area after filler injections are done? Do I need to take time off work?

: Thank you for that question. Bruising is a possible after effect which you could get from undergoing filler treatments. Actually, bruising is a possible after effect of any kind of injection especially if it is done under the eyes. The main reason for this is that the skin under the eyes is quite thinner compared to other parts of the body. Fortunately, bruising can still be avoided, if you do proper after treatment care as well as if you select an experienced and skilled injector such as a board certified plastic surgeon. The skill of the injector is very important as your injector can avert or prevent possible after effects if he is experienced enough.

For after care maintenance, you can ice the injection site after the treatment. However, do not apply the ice directly on your skin to avoid burns. In addition, avoid products that can thin your blood prior and after the procedure so that bruising may be prevented. Such medications would include aspiring, Coumadin, vitamin E, anti-inflammatory medications, and the likes.

Bruising will usually subside on its own. It may last anywhere within 24 to 48 hours or a max of 7 to 10 days. If bruising persists longer, you may want to contact your surgeon for a follow up checkup. Hope this answers your question!
