Aesthetic Medicine is the field of medicine in which minimal invasive cosmetic treatments are used to improve the physical appearance of patients. In the past, it was limited to dermatology and plastic surgery. However, Aesthetic Medicine today represents non-surgical procedures that can accommodate the aesthetic needs of the patient. Aesthetic treatments have become part of the health routine of people who want to maintain a healthy and natural appearance.

Dr. Sheffield offers a wide range of aesthetic treatments that soothe and pamper our patients, while at the same time improving their appearance. Some off the services include chemical peels, photodynamic therapy, blue light therapy, Kybella, and hand rejuvenation. Sessions take around 20 minutes to an hour and are performed by him or his directed medical staff who are well trained and board certified.


The Vampire Facial  is a non surgical procedure that is customized for every patient.  It utilizes microneedling with PRP (platelet rich plasma) which stimulates the skin to facilitate skin rejuvenation designed to restore a youthful appearance to the face.


Micro-needling is a non-surgical approach whose purpose is for skin tightening.  One of the devices used to lift and rejuvenate the skin is the Bella SkinPen.  The Bella SkinPen is a much safer and more effective in piercing the skin than traditional rollers.  It has the highest levels of effectiveness and causes the maximum response of college and elastin for the rejuvenation process.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are aesthetic medicine treatments used for years to make the skin brighter and look younger. There are several types of chemicals, and their effects differ from each other. There are chemical peels that can reduce acne and acne scars, lighten pigmentation, get rid of dark spots, and soften wrinkles and other age indicators. Dr. Sheffield will be able to recommend the right type of peel for certain skin concerns.


Kybella is a new procedure developed by Kythera Pharmaceuticals. It recently got the approval from the US FDA. The main goal of this type of aesthetic treatment is to treat chin fat in order to get rid the appearance of a double chin. Kybella involves injecting the drug under the chin in order to remove the fat cells. Once the treatment is completed, there will be less fat in the chin. It is a relatively safe and effect treatment for removing double chin. Another advantage of Kybella is that it requires a shorter recovery compared to a chin liposuction.


Latiesse is prescription drug used to grow and thicken eyelashes by applying it to the upper lash line.  Latiesse spreads to your lower lash line as you blink and the results are noticed in twelve to sixteen weeks when used daily.  Studies have shown that Latiesse can be effective at at not only extending the growth phase but also in the number of hairs which leads the the fullness of the lash.



Photodynamic therapy or PDT is mainly used to treat superficial types of skin cancer. However, it can also be used as an aesthetic medicine treatment for acne and to rejuvenate the skin. It uses photosensitizing agents, light, and oxygen to create a reaction that the cancer cells. Photosensitizing agents are drugs that are administered oral, intravenous, or topical methods. They concentrate in the cells that will be targeted by the light with a specific wavelength.


Blue light therapy is a non-invasive treatment of acne. It is administered through a blue light delivery system. The patient is required to sit in front of a blue light lamp for around fifteen minutes. It requires two sessions each week for a four-week period. With the use of blue light therapy, inflammation due to acne is reduced. You should expect the treated area to swell temporarily. Patients should also expect temporary changes to the skin pigment.
